Legacy Treatment Services – A Merger of The Children’s Home and The Drenk Center

With over 200 years of experience serving New Jersey’s most vulnerable and at-risk children, youth, adults and families, Legacy Treatment Services serves as the premier resource in the region for residential, behavioral, and mental health needs. A planning and implementation process that spanned over two years culminated on July 1, 2014 with our official launch date. The detailed merger preparation, under the guidance of CEO Roy Leitstein and CEO Emeritus Harry Marmorstein, paved the way for a seamless transition for over 700 employees providing a full array of programs and services operating in 13 counties throughout New Jersey as well as in New Castle County, Delaware.

The synergy created as a result of this merger makes the most of our vast community partnerships and intellectual resources with exciting opportunities for innovative programs to benefit more people in need throughout New Jersey. We are excited about the possibilities to accelerate the growth of new programs and services, using cutting-edge technology and evidence-based practice in treatment and clinical care.

Joining together two organizations, each with its own rich history, and complementary in their strengths, cultures, vision, programs and services benefits each of our stakeholders. Both agencies evolved over the years to meet the increasingly complex needs of our vulnerable children, adults, and families. With the ever-changing behavioral and mental healthcare environment, as “Legacy Treatment Services,” we are committed to seeking new, innovative solutions that help us provide needed services more efficiently while maintaining stable, sustainable growth.

About The Children's Home

About The Drenk Center

Our Philosophy of Care

Legacy’s services are provided based on the principles of wellness and recovery. They aim to improve consumers’ overall well-being by assisting them in recognizing and acknowledging their needs and strengths while incorporating them into an individualized service plan. We work to help individuals develop skills and utilize support systems to independently manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life.

We define recovery as the process by which people are able to live, work, learn and participate fully in their communities. Recovery involves recognizing and accepting strengths, limitations and losses, and distinguishing the difference between having a disability and becoming the disability.

Legacy’s treatment and support service delivery system is designed to meet the needs of our consumers by providing an array of evidence-based treatments, safe and supportive environments, and competent professionals and peer specialists who create opportunities that foster wellness for consumers and their families. We believe in empowering individuals to discover hope, to recognize that recovery is possible, and to fully engage as a partner in treatment.

Why Choose Legacy

Legacy Treatment Services is a nonprofit human service agency dedicated to improving the lives of children, adults and families struggling with behavioral health and developmental challenges. A merger of two agencies with a strong community presence and a combined 210 years of expertise, Legacy Treatment Services offers a comprehensive continuum that meets individuals and families at their particular point of need.

For 150 years, The Children’s Home educated, counseled and empowered youth with emotional and developmental challenges while The Drenk Center delivered a full spectrum of behavioral health services to all ages for more than a half century. Legacy Treatment Services continues to build on both organizations’ histories by preserving the high standards of care already in place while evolving alongside community needs and best practices.

This merger has produced an organization shaped by innovative programming and evidence based practices, delivered by a team of credentialed and experienced leaders with a passion for transforming lives. With an array of services offered throughout the State of New Jersey, Legacy Treatment Services’ mission is to change the behavioral health and social service outcomes for people of all ages from surviving to thriving.

A Story of Success

For James and many like him, having a stable place to call home can make all the difference in the world. James was once homeless, living on the streets, in the woods, and in homeless shelters. Once a family man, homeowner, and veteran with a 20 year long career, the effects of two failed marriages, years of cocaine addiction, and the devastating scars left by childhood abuse, led him down a dark path. But there came a time when he was “sick and tired of being sick and tired” and sought the help he needed. Hard work on his part has resulted in two years of sobriety, and he is grateful for Legacy’s help with securing an apartment. Having a safe, stable home means he can focus on staying clean and spend time with his children and grandchildren. He’s also started a small business and gives back by volunteering at his church. Success now for James is simply enjoying life, and knowing once again that people believe in him.
