Juneteenth:
This day is not just another day. Juneteenth is a day to be celebrated. It is a day for education and awareness. A day that allows individuals to come together, to learn from one another, to show love, compassion, and equality towards each other in order to work together to make our communities a better place; a place free of hatred and cruelty.
Legacy’s Cultural Diversity Committee would like to ensure this day is highlighted and acknowledged. The Committee feels it is important for our staff and others to know what this day is and what it means. Juneteenth is a day to celebrate the true emancipation of those who were enslaved. It is a day to honor those who fought for the right to be free of slavery and free of oppression.
The Agency will continue to enhance, advocate for, educate and empower our Consumers and families as we strive to maintain the highest level of cultural competence and diversity in the services we provide. This is accomplished through the pursuit of culturally sensitive and diverse service provision, staffing and attitudes and by ensuring there is always an open forum for active dialogue.
JUNETEENTH WILL BE OUR 9TH AGENCY HOLIDAY.
We celebrate our progress but we fully recognize that so much more needs to be done!
From surviving to thriving!
