Nicole, 30, has been in and out of therapy for over a decade, and never truly understood what it was like to connect with her therapist until she found Legacy. Struggling with anxiety and ADHD for as long as she can remember, Nicole often found herself overwhelmed. Her days were filled with severe panic attacks that led to hyperventilating and spiraling. In desperate search of a therapist at a pivotal moment in her life, Nicole finally found Legacy and her new therapist, Patty.
Patty and Nicole quickly developed a rapport, establishing trust in their clinical relationship as Nicole began her therapy with Legacy. Nicole explained that Patty took the time to understand her on a fundamental level, “I feel like I am actually heard. I am not a number or appointment time . . . I’m Nicole.” She and Patty have built upon that foundation, working to stop Nicole’s negative and intrusive thoughts so that she can understand her own value.
Patty says, “The most important relationship in therapy is the one you build with yourself.” Together, she and Nicole have been working to meet Nicole where she is at, establish where she would like to be, and start living like she is already there. An important part of her therapy at Legacy has been envisioning the progress and willing it to happen.
“There were days when I did not see the point,” Nicole reflected. “I knew I had to keep going for my loved ones and family, but I didn’t really understand what was in it for me. Now I see that I matter too, and deserve to keep going for myself, even if it’s hard.”
We wish Nicole the best of luck on the rest of her journey and thank Patty for her dedication and care. From Surviving to Thriving.
