For Jamar, life before connecting with Legacy Treatment Services was chaotic and uncertain. Facing mental health challenges and legal troubles, Jamar found himself at a crossroads. “I was going through a rough part in my life and had just caught a new charge,” he shares. “You guys saved my life. I’ve come a very long way from where I was, to where I am now.”
Legacy’s Diversion Support Services (DSS) helps individuals transition from incarceration, diverting them from homelessness, crisis, and further legal trouble. The program offers mental health services, case management, and housing support to foster stability and long-term recovery.
At first, Jamar didn’t know what to expect. “I was nervous,” he admits. “But Alexa, Sally, and the rest of the staff provided so much support, and this is the best program I’ve ever been a part of. It’s like my second home.” A pivotal moment came during a family crisis. “My last breakdown was tough, but Legacy was there. They helped me realize how much support I was missing.”
Since starting DSS, Jamar’s life has transformed. “My life isn’t as erratic as it used to be. I slow down, think about my mental health, and reach out when I need help.” He’s also gained a new perspective: “I’ve learned to focus on what I have, rather than what’s missing. I got myself back.”
Jamar is now fighting harder than ever to achieve his goals. “I want to get my own place, be my best self, and show others they can make it with Legacy.” His advice to anyone considering the program? “Give it a chance. Legacy is here, like genuinely here.”
For Jamar, DSS has been more than a program—it’s been a lifeline, helping him reconstruct his life from the ground up.
