Joey B. was admitted to Legacy affiliate Community Treatment Solutions (CTS) on August 25, 2021, just days after turning four years old. The Department of Child Protection and Permanency (DCPP) took custody of Joey and his brother when they were both found wandering in the street alone without an adult in the middle of the night. His father is deceased and his mother was found to be having a mental health crisis at the time of the removal.
Joey was placed in a resource home and was known as a difficult youth to place due to his high needs. He was not toilet trained and mostly nonverbal. He also exhibited some behaviors such as running out of homes, getting up in the middle of the night, and taking off his clothes and urinating and defecating in different areas. Joey also displayed some aggression towards his sibling. The resource home asked for his removal and emergency placement was needed.
Despite only being at CTS for approximately three months, Joey has made improvements in most life domains. He is adjusting to a routine and sleeping more at night. He is also making strides with toilet training and is now able to verbally express when he needs to use the “potty” through help of a Potty Watch. Joey is also adjusting well to attending a daycare with other youth and has acclimated to the structure and daily activities. He is now in a stable and comfortable environment and able to work in play therapy with his clinician. He is scheduled to attend evaluations with the Child Study Team to prepare him for future schooling. He is also scheduled to have his first ever dental exam soon. His team has hopes that Joey has a bright future ahead of him
